NETZSCH TORNADO® T2 rotary lobe pump wins Processing magazine 2013 Break-through Product of the Year award

By: Netzsch

Processing Magazine’s Breakthrough Products of the Year awards recognize products, technologies and services that made significant contributions in the process industries within the last year, and are expected to impact the industry for years to come. The TORNADO® T2 was recognized for materials advances applied to rotary lobe pumps. It addresses conveyance challenges by completely reversing the entire materials concept of conventional rotary lobe pumps by featuring a metal lobe with a replaceable rubber liner – a concept more like a progressive cavity pump.

The TORNADO® T2 rotary lobe pump had its world premiere last May at the IFAT, and its US premiere at WEFTEC 2012 in New Orleans. Since the T2’s launch, it has already proven successful in numerous applications and has won awards around the globe, including the “Targa Beltrami” innovation prize in March 2012 at the Biogas Trade Fair in Cremona, Italy.

“Full Service in Place” has replaced the old concept of “Maintenance in Place” for which rotary lobe pumps are known.  NETZSCH accomplished this by replacing the timing gears with a timing belt thus eliminating the need of draining and changing the messy oil required to lubricate the timing gears. Completely free access to the pump chamber along with a front-loaded cartridge seal integrated with the rotor allows servicing work to be done not only quickly but easily. Other unique features of the T2 make it possible to replace the lobes and mechanical seals in less than half the time it takes with conventional rotary lobe pumps.

In addition, the T2 was designed to take up even less space than the previous model. This was successfully achieved by eliminating the timing gears and using a timing belt with a piggyback mounted motor.  This pump is robust and resistant to wear, sturdy in terms of handling solids and ensures an extremely low level of pulsation. With the latest evolution of the TORNADO® rotary lobe pump, NETZSCH revolutionized rotary lobe pump design.
